Testing For Prostate Disease

A lot of men fear going to the doctor for anything, much less prostate disease. They often have memories of yearly physicals growing up when the doctor would check for hernia. Not a nice though and they often worry themselves sick over the tests for prostate disease.

The good news is there is a blood test for prostate disease, called a PSA test and it measures the amount of prostate antigens in the blood. This can show prostate disease or cancer. The doctor may want to also check the prostate manually, but this is rarely done unless absolutely necessary.

Middle aged men don?t need to worry about the nature of prostate testing so much anymore with the invention of highly sensitive lab tests. Plus, if symptoms are prominent and the lab test is positive the doctor may not need to do a manual exam at all. It is also better to get tested, than not if you have a family history of the disease.
